What is Cross Promotion?

Cross promotion is an app marketing strategy, wherein app developers promote one of their apps inside another app that they’ve either developed and/or own.

Cross Promotion Example

King could take advantage of cross-promotion by promoting “Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!” inside the “Candy Crush Saga” app. Doing so would allow King to expose “Crash Bandicoot” to the enormous user base that plays “Candy Crush” everyday, and likely boost installs.

Why is Cross Promotion Popular with App Developers?

Cross promotion strategies are most commonly used by large app developers—especially those that produce hyper-casual games.

Why is this? It’s because large app developers have more apps in their portfolios with which to cross promote. And hyper casual games often have low retention rates. By cross promoting, developers are better able to keep users inside their app ecosystems.
