What is App Store Analytics: Installations?

“App Store Analytics: Installations” is a usage metric available to iOS developers. It measures the total number of times your apps have been downloaded to devices running iOS 8 or tvOS 9, and beyond.

This metric is interesting because it includes redownloads on the same device, downloads to multiple devices sharing the same Apple ID, and Family Sharing installations. Also of note, total installation numbers are based on the number of App Store users who agree to share their data. This means that your app has almost certainly been downloaded more times than the “Installation” metric claims. The additional downloaders, however, have decided not to share their data. So, while still a useful metric, take “App Store Analytics: Installations” information with a grain of salt.
